MYTH at Style Origin

MYTH took part in Greenbelt's Style Origin over the weekend (March 25-26, 2011), and we just had to share how the host wore a gorgeous gown by our very own Joel Escober:

We were in great company, with our fellow homegrown designers and retailers taking part in the Fashion Walk.

It really was an honor to be part of such a showcase of talent! We hope you can join us next time!

Meet the President: Louis Claparols

(Photo by Dairy Darilag for Sense&Style)

Louis Claparols, former President of the Young Designers Guild (YDG), has come a long way since his embellished Imelda t-shirt days.

(Photo from louisclaparols.mulitply.com)

While he has matured and evolved as a designer, his fun, playful and very wearable aesthetic is still a force to be reckoned with. Check out his designs as seen on Metrowear 2010:

(Photos by Bruce Casanova)

Louis grew up in Iloilo and credits his mom for his interest in fashion. In his designer profile for Ensembles, where he launched a capsule collection back in 2010, he shared, “I grew up with a very chic mom, and I believe fashion is in our blood”. He initially worked in retail, clocking in valuable experience from Paul Smith, Armani and Hugo Boss before charting a career in fashion design.

The self-taught designer studied patternmaking under Jojie Lloren and considers the very talented Ivarluski Aseron as his mentor.

While Louis is already getting known for his use of bold colors and geometric patterns and prints on his designs, he tells Cheche Moral of PDI that he feels he has yet to create a definitive look that is distinctly his. We are already blown away with his designs, and we can barely imagine what he means by having a look he will deem fit to be called his own. Knowing Louis, he will continue to push the envelop and explores the limitless possibilities of what he can do. Take for instance, his couture cakes for the Hyatt!

We consider ourselves lucky to be working with him, and bringing the best of Louis to all of you!

In the Press: Louis Claparols in Manila Bulletin

Louis Claparols is one amazing designer with a distinct aesthetic. When you look at his work, one can immediately tell it's a Louis Claparols. It is with a desire to get some of that Louis flavor that we asked him to work with us at Myth. Check out his pieces as seen on the March 5 issue of Manila Bulletin:

My Favorites Things: Books

I thought it would be fun to share with you the things I get obsessed about. And while it would be nice to buy everything exclusively at Myth, I also believe a fulfilling life is a life well-lived: doing inspired work and also giving in to indulgences that feed the mind, heart and soul. Here's the second in a series of my favorite things:

The Food of Love by Anthony Capella:

A good light read; funny situations involving the chef and the waiter who are both in love with the same girl. Vividly described the food and all its preparation.  Made me want to go Italy and experience the same thing!

Persepolis 1 & 2 by Marjane Satrapi:

Presented as a comic book, the illustrations take me back to my younger years.  It is an excellent entertaining format for a book that talks about a serious women issue in Iran.  Both funny and informative, this gives the reader a good grasp of what the author went through in her younger years in Iran.

The Kite Runner & A Thousand Splendid Suns, both by Khaled Hosseini:

These two books touched me in so many ways.  Well-written and at the same time very informative, the reader is taken to Afghanistan to experience the life that the leading characters went through.  Vivid details and description awed me.  Made me realize how lucky we are over here and at the same time wish the women there had it better.

Myth Commemorates EDSA

Not only did we participate in the commemorative exhibit, we dressed up the store with  carefully chosen black & yellow pieces, the colors of EDSA! Our own little way of reliving a glorious moment in our country's history.

Yellow Fever: A Tribute to EDSA & Former Pres. Corazon Aquino

Back in February, to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of EDSA and to commemorate the late Pres. Corazon Aquino, Myth joined other Greenbelt retailers in coming out with limited edition pieces as a tribute to our nation's fight for freedom.
The event was graced with the presence of Ayala Museum director Guillermo Luz, Ayala Malls Group VP and COO Rowena Tomeldan, Ballsy Aquino–Cruz, Viel Aquino–Dee and Ayala Malls Group VP and head of business development Cora Dizon.

The exhibit showcased a collection of commemorative items from the Aquino family, Ayala Museum, and its merchant partners Swatch, Bench, Bayo, Collezione C2, Philip Stein, and of course, Myth:

Chris Diaz designed a Cory Aquino inspired dress that is the height of femininity, reserve and all that is unfussy.  Joel Escober took the mod pop art route, came out with two Warhol-esque pieces. Our store of course was a sight to behold as well! Will share pictures on my next post! ;)

My Favorite Things: Scents

I thought it would be fun to share with you the things I get obsessed about. And while it would be nice to buy everything exclusively at Myth, I also believe a fulfilling life is a life well-lived: doing inspired work and also giving in to indulgences that feed the mind, heart and soul. Here's the first in a series of my favorite things:

Balenciaga Paris

Two scents caught my attention last year. I bought the Balenciaga first because I thought Love was too sweet and innocent for me.  Balenciaga was both sweet and earthy.  An intriguing combination.  An initial spritz is quite strong but as it settles, it becomes powdery in an earthy way.  I thought this scent was perfect for the cool days and nights ahead.

Love, Chloe

Love, Chloe continued to haunt me.  Although sweet and innocent, I thought it was also mysterious in a way.  First whiff is neither strong nor weak.  The scent lingers and envelopes you.  After some time, it haunts you... much like how you want a man to think of you... (hahahahah!)
