Meet the President: Louis Claparols

(Photo by Dairy Darilag for Sense&Style)

Louis Claparols, former President of the Young Designers Guild (YDG), has come a long way since his embellished Imelda t-shirt days.

(Photo from louisclaparols.mulitply.com)

While he has matured and evolved as a designer, his fun, playful and very wearable aesthetic is still a force to be reckoned with. Check out his designs as seen on Metrowear 2010:

(Photos by Bruce Casanova)

Louis grew up in Iloilo and credits his mom for his interest in fashion. In his designer profile for Ensembles, where he launched a capsule collection back in 2010, he shared, “I grew up with a very chic mom, and I believe fashion is in our blood”. He initially worked in retail, clocking in valuable experience from Paul Smith, Armani and Hugo Boss before charting a career in fashion design.

The self-taught designer studied patternmaking under Jojie Lloren and considers the very talented Ivarluski Aseron as his mentor.

While Louis is already getting known for his use of bold colors and geometric patterns and prints on his designs, he tells Cheche Moral of PDI that he feels he has yet to create a definitive look that is distinctly his. We are already blown away with his designs, and we can barely imagine what he means by having a look he will deem fit to be called his own. Knowing Louis, he will continue to push the envelop and explores the limitless possibilities of what he can do. Take for instance, his couture cakes for the Hyatt!

We consider ourselves lucky to be working with him, and bringing the best of Louis to all of you!

Meet our Master of Androgyny: Joey Samson

 (Photo via Chuvaness)

With a spotlight on Myth Menswear, courtesy of Garage Magazine, I thought it would be fitting to introduce you to our very own Joey Samson, who is known for the meticulous fit of his pieces, and his unique take on fashion - whether it be for men or women. We love his work, and it was no surprise when he got rave reviews for his modern take on Filipiniana - remember these ternos as seen on Stylebible.ph?

I wore Joey Samson at the Greenbelt 5 Filipino Zone Preview back in 2009

As seen on pretty celebrity, Bianca Gonzales at Preview's Best Dressed Ball 2009

Joey is a master of both menswear and womenswear, as you can see.  I do not have enough words describe his work, as his designs speak volumes.  I am just giving you a taste, and to learn more about Joey's background, his inspirations and his thoughts on design, read this informative, in depth interview by Jae Pickrell on Stylebible.ph.

Meet our Fantastical Designer: Joel Escober

Joel is known for his fantastical creations: elaborate fan like pieces trailing down the body, dresses blooming profusely, ruffles and drapes fluidly melding into one stunning statement.

It is no wonder that Joel is a fashion favorite among stylish ladies. He makes pieces that catch the eye, and encourages it to linger, long enough to admire every detail that he puts in his work.

We at Myth strongly encourage you to check out his designs. While they do look breathtaking in photos, they are infinitely more divine in real life. To see is to believe!

Meet our Streetwear Designer: Nixon Marquez

(Photo from stylebible.ph)

Have we whetted your appetite yet on Nixon Marquez?

We've decided to tell you more about Nixon, who was hailed as part of Preview Magazine's roster of designers to watch in 2010:

- He is absolutely self-taught
- He used to be stylist Shahani Gania's assistant
- He loves to sketch - particularly skinny female Japanese anime characters
- He is known for his predominantly black, gray & white palette. For S/S 2011, he ventures into neutral territory still, with nudes & whites
- His design philosophy?

"It should be monochromatic and unconventional yet practical."
- as told to Stylebible.ph

We can assure you, again and again, he manages to achieve all three in his designs! Nixon is a great talent and we are so pleased to have him at Myth!

Meet our Romantic Designer: Chris Diaz

Chris Diaz is not your typical designer. He graduated in 1998 with a degree in Interior Design from PSID and four years later, found himself in the world of clothing and accessories. Fueled by the exposure and training he received as an artist/embroidery designer for an exporter of couture fabrics, straight out of high school, he went on to pursue his true passion - fashion.

Sheer talent allowed him to gain entry as a finalist in Mega Magazine's Young Designer's Competition in 2002. In 2005 he joined Concours International des Jeunes Creatures de Mode, Accessories Division in Paris, France. By 2006, he was awarded Best Evening Wear Designer by the Mercedes Benz Malaysian International Fashion Award (MIFA).

After gaining recognition from fashion competitions and scores of magazine and press features later, Chris has surely made his mark in the industry, alll that without any formal training! And we are more than pleased to have him on board at Myth, where he continues to amaze us with his perfect blend of conceptual yet commercial pieces. As a retailer, I would have to say, that's genius!

Meet MYTH's Designer: Noel Crisostomo

At MYTH, we carry the creations of Manila's talented designers, as well as a line of our very own, eponymously called - MYTH.

MYTH is designed by Filipino-Canadian Noel Crisostomo, who came back home to Manila after a series of successful design stints abroad, packing Sunny Choi, Club Monaco and Ports 1961 under his belt. He is the epitome of Filipino talent honed and skilled by his education and experience abroad.

Noel made his first pair of pants at age 10, learning from his mother who sewed clothes for her eight children. At 15, he landed his first summer job as fashion illustrator. He later studied Architecture at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. Noel shifted back to fashion design when he and his family immigrated to Canada and enrolled at Ryerson University in Toronto.

In 1996, he successfully launched his own women’s wear company, under the eponymous label, Crisostomo. His first Spring Collection show was well received by both the media and the retailers. He became a regular feature in Canada’s top publications such as Flare, Toronto Life Fashion and Elle. After the second collection, he garnered The Best New Canadian Designer award presented by The Fashion Group International.

In 1999, Noel took a break from his business and became a design teacher at Ryerson University while joining retail giant Club Monaco as Senior Design Consultant. He later became the right hand man for Canada’s leading evening wear designer Sunny Choi. Their collections were sold at Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Holt Renfrew, and has graced the red carpet such as the Oscars, Golden Globe and The Emmys. In 2005, Noel was appointed to lead the design team of the international brand Ports 1961 White Label collection in China.

In November 2007, Noel went back to Manila for a vacation and saw a potential in the fashion industry. He decided to stay and reestablished his company. In May 2009, he opened his shop at Vito Cruz Extension in Makati selling his RTW line and also offers custom design.

With a North American design sensibility and his love for “haute couture and tailoring traditions”, Noel has developed a personal vision of timeless elegance, where the classic generates a new modernity.

“Sleek, clean, polished, architectural, inventive, practical, ingenious, modern, fresh, elegant, restrained and classic are the words that describe my style.”

Read more about Noel and his line for MYTH, in an article by Philippine Daily Inquirer's Alex Vergara, HERE.
